At the international Eurofleurs competition, talented young florists under the age of 27 compete for the title of Junior Florist Champion. To take part as Germany’s representative, young florists were able to apply online with photos or video clips of favorite floral workpieces. The five best were invited to the competition at IPM by the Fachverband Deutscher Floristen (FDF) and the Fleurop Academy: Kim Bücholdt, Nicole Westermeier, Lea Sabo, Ramona Kohout and Anian Friedrich.
On the eve of the stage event, the florists already had the task of tying a bouquet. On Wednesday, two tasks had to be solved on stage: a vessel filling and a work with black plug-in foam from the sponsor Smithers-Oasis. All five participants had a common pool of materials at their disposal.
At the end of the show, it was clear that Ramona Kohout, Nicole Westermeier and Anian Friedrich would advance one round. The winner will be determined in the final on Thursday at 10: 30. He will represent German floristry at Eurofleurs 2023 in Slovenia. The preliminary competition will be conducted by florists from the FDF creative team #floralproject 3.0 and moderated by Tino Hoogterp. The jury includes Petra Spring, Josef Dirr and Maximilian Martin.
The competition has been organized by the international florists’ association Florint every four years since 1998, but due to corona the last time was in 2017. With a one-year delay, the competition will now be held from August 22 to 26, 2023, in the historic arboretum Volcji Potok Park near the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. Volcji Potok Park covers 85 hectares and is the most visited botanical garden in Slovenia.
Sustainability and “back to nature” are announced as the main themes of Eurofleurs 2023. Visitors and participants are advised to arrive on August 22. The outdoor championship will take place over three days from August 23–25, ending with a festive awards gala. It will still be possible to view the floral art of the championship on the official day of departure, August 26.
